  • Winning the Race? By Abu Muhammad Yusuf
    Winning the Race? By Abu Muhammad Yusuf It may be an athletic race, an exam, a business deal, an argument or whatever; our human instinct wants us to be at the top. We all want to win the battle, but in the process are we not losing the war? In pursuit of our material goals we often lose focus and although we may “achieve, win or succeed”, it could be at a substantial cost to ourselves, families, friends and community. A few years ago at a Special Athletics Meeting, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 50 meter race. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the tarmac, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed...

  • HE VIRTUES MONTH OF ZIL HIJJAH By E ISLAM TEAM
    HE VIRTUES MONTH OF ZIL HIJJAH By E ISLAM TEAM Importance of First 10 Days of Zil Hijjah The Takbeeraat of Tashreeq Fasting on the day of Arafah(9 Zil Hijjah) Qurbani / Udhiyya IMPORTANCE OF FIRST TEN DAYS OF ZIL-HIJJAH         The first ten days of Zul Hijjah are among the most magnificent days in Islamic calendar. The Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." (Hadith -Bukhari)         Almighty Allah Ta'ala says, (By the dawn; by the ten nights) (Quran-Al-Fajr 89: 1-2). Ibn `Abbas, ibn az-Zubayr, Mujahid and others of the earlier and later generations are of the opinion that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Ibn Kathir said: "This is the correct opinion." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 8/413)     The...

  • Udhiya (Qurbani)
    Udhiya (Qurbani) What is Udhiya?   ‘Udhiya’ is an Arabic word meaning "blood sacrifice", and ‘Qurbani’ is an Urdu and Persian word derived from the Arabic word "Qurban" which literally means an act performed to seek Allah Ta’ala’s pleasure. It is technically used for the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.   The sacrifice of an animal has always been a recognised form of worship in many religions, but in the ‘Shariah’ (Islamic sacred law) of The Last and Final Messenger of Allah Ta’ala (Peace be upon him) the sacrifice of an animal has been recognised as a form of ibadah (worship) during the three days of the month Zul Hijjah, namely the 10th, 11th, and 12th.   This is to commemorate the unparalleled sacrifice offered by the Prophet Sayyidna Ibrahim, Alayhi Salam, when...

  • True Richness! By Abu Muhammad Yusuf
      Truly, the richest person is not the one with most materials possessions nor is the poorest person one in abject poverty. True wealth lies in contentment. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is reported to have said: “Richness is not the abundance of wealth; rather, it is self-contentment.” Discontentment makes rich people poor while contentment makes poor people rich. There was a crow which lived in the forest and was absolutely satisfied in life. But one day he saw a swan. “This swan is so white,” he thought, “and I am so black. This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.” He expressed his thoughts to the swan. “Actually,” the swan replied, “I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot, which has two colours. I now think the parrot is the happiest bird in creation.” The...

  • Problems, Problems, Problems… By Sister S Bemath
    PROBLEMS!!!...How we hate them! The time and energy we waste, stewing over problems instead of tackling them cheerfully and constructively, recognising them as the growth points of life and progress. Life can expose us to a series of problems. Problems evoke in us a great deal of emotional pain, such as sorrow, fear, anger, anxiety, sadness etc. These are uncomfortable emotions. Do we want to moan about them or solve them? Discipline is the basic set of tools we require to solve life's problems... it is in this whole process of meeting and solving problems that life has its meaning.

    Problems are the cutting edge that distinguishes success and failure. Problems are what cause us to grow mentally and spiritually. Without growth, we're doomed to stay as we have always been. Wise people learn not to dread problems, but to welcome,...

Pearls of Wisdom: No.55 “Food for the Soul” SUBJECT: DO NOT DESPAIR IN THE MERCY OF ALLAH

Allah, The Most Exalted, says:

“O my servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Verily, Allah forgives all sins, for he is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (Qur’an 39:53)

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is reported to have said;

"Indeed, before Allah created the creation, He decreed for Himself, 'Indeed My Mercy prevails over My Anger.” (Hadith Bukhari and Muslim)

Note: No matter how big the sin or sins that you have committed, no matter what your past has been like, if you come back to Him with one sincere, sincere Tauba(Repentance), coming from the heart, He will indeed forgive you. E very pious person has a past and every sinner has a future!

Allah created mercy in one hundred parts and sent down to earth only one part. Because of this one part, there is mutual love amongst creation, so much so that an animal will lift up its hoof from its young one, fearing that it might harm it. Allah has reserved the remaining ninety-nine parts of this mercy to favor His believing servants on the Day of Judgment. (Hadith-Bukhari and Muslim)

Allah's love is much greater than a mother's love for her child. When you find yourself lost in the whirlpool of your sins, when you can't see yourself coming out of this mess, when all you see is darkness around you, remember His doors are open for you. He loves you. If you crawl to Him, He will walk to you. If you walk to Him, He will run to you!

“Don’t despair, for as the sun fades the stars begin to shine! When it appears that that all have left remember Allah Ta’ala is AWLAYS there and will  NEVER leave you ALONE!”
