  • Back to School By Umme Ammarah
Schools are about to open and you're probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that holidays are just about over. Back to School comes with a barrage of projects, homework, sports practice and of course a day filled with pickups and drop offs. “The roots of education may be bitter, but the fruit is sweet” Back to school time also means adjustments for children and families;  the first day of grade one, new schools, new classrooms, new teachers and for adults sometimes new jobs. Change is sometimes exciting and sometimes frightening, but this can also be an opportunity to set new goals. It's is a new year, 1435 of the Hijri Calendar and each year goes so fast like a quick turn of a page. This is why planning and setting goals is so important. As Muslims all our plans should be aimed at achieving our final goal which is to...

  • Just one "A"!
Just one "A"! By Abdur Rahmaan Umar It had been a long two weeks thought Taheera as she stole a moment to gulp down her now lukewarm tea. Yes, it had been two long weeks of covering books, sharpening pencils and struggling to make up sets of pencil colours from leftovers of last year. Getting the kids back to school had been no easy task and she had heard all the stories about school and about the learner who was adamant about working on the floor because her teacher insisted that they do their math without tables; and of the new teacher who marched into the classroom determined to establish his authority, and after banging his books on the desk demanded, “Will all the idiots in this class please stand up!” After a painfully long silence young Abdool stood up at the back of the class and the teacher said, “Yes young man! Tell us why...

  • Pearls of Wisdom: No.57 “Food for the Soul” SUBJECT: DEEN(ISLAM) IS EASY
Allah, The Most Exalted, says: “Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you.” (Quran:2:185)
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is reported to have said; “Verily this religion is ease; and none make this religion difficult except that it overwhelms them.” (Hadith Bukhari) Note: Islam is a simple religion and not burdensome. However, that Islam is easy and not ‘difficult’ is not to imply that Muslims will not face 'hardship'. It implies that the practicing of Islam is quite easy and simple. None should go to extremes in religious matters and forsake the easy approach as it may become too taxing and the possibility that the person may abandon the act in totality. It does not mean that we should not seek to be more perfect in our worship, for that is something...

  • Winning the Race? By Abu Muhammad Yusuf
Winning the Race? By Abu Muhammad Yusuf It may be an athletic race, an exam, a business deal, an argument or whatever; our human instinct wants us to be at the top. We all want to win the battle, but in the process are we not losing the war? In pursuit of our material goals we often lose focus and although we may “achieve, win or succeed”, it could be at a substantial cost to ourselves, families, friends and community. A few years ago at a Special Athletics Meeting, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 50 meter race. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the tarmac, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed...

  • HE VIRTUES MONTH OF ZIL HIJJAH By E ISLAM TEAM
HE VIRTUES MONTH OF ZIL HIJJAH By E ISLAM TEAM Importance of First 10 Days of Zil Hijjah The Takbeeraat of Tashreeq Fasting on the day of Arafah(9 Zil Hijjah) Qurbani / Udhiyya IMPORTANCE OF FIRST TEN DAYS OF ZIL-HIJJAH         The first ten days of Zul Hijjah are among the most magnificent days in Islamic calendar. The Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." (Hadith -Bukhari)         Almighty Allah Ta'ala says, (By the dawn; by the ten nights) (Quran-Al-Fajr 89: 1-2). Ibn `Abbas, ibn az-Zubayr, Mujahid and others of the earlier and later generations are of the opinion that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Ibn Kathir said: "This is the correct opinion." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 8/413)     The...

  • Udhiya (Qurbani)
Udhiya (Qurbani) What is Udhiya?   ‘Udhiya’ is an Arabic word meaning "blood sacrifice", and ‘Qurbani’ is an Urdu and Persian word derived from the Arabic word "Qurban" which literally means an act performed to seek Allah Ta’ala’s pleasure. It is technically used for the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.   The sacrifice of an animal has always been a recognised form of worship in many religions, but in the ‘Shariah’ (Islamic sacred law) of The Last and Final Messenger of Allah Ta’ala (Peace be upon him) the sacrifice of an animal has been recognised as a form of ibadah (worship) during the three days of the month Zul Hijjah, namely the 10th, 11th, and 12th.   This is to commemorate the unparalleled sacrifice offered by the Prophet Sayyidna Ibrahim, Alayhi Salam, when...

  • True Richness! By Abu Muhammad Yusuf
Truly, the richest person is not the one with most materials possessions nor is the poorest person one in abject poverty. True wealth lies in contentment. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is reported to have said: “Richness is not the abundance of wealth; rather, it is self-contentment.” Discontentment makes rich people poor while contentment makes poor people rich. There was a crow which lived in the forest and was absolutely satisfied in life. But one day he saw a swan. “This swan is so white,” he thought, “and I am so black. This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.” He expressed his thoughts to the swan. “Actually,” the swan replied, “I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot, which has two colours. I now think the parrot is the happiest bird in creation.” The...

Pearls of Wisdom: No.55 “Food for the Soul” SUBJECT: DO NOT DESPAIR IN THE MERCY OF ALLAH

Allah, The Most Exalted, says:

“O my servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Verily, Allah forgives all sins, for he is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (Qur’an 39:53)

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is reported to have said;

"Indeed, before Allah created the creation, He decreed for Himself, 'Indeed My Mercy prevails over My Anger.” (Hadith Bukhari and Muslim)

Note: No matter how big the sin or sins that you have committed, no matter what your past has been like, if you come back to Him with one sincere, sincere Tauba(Repentance), coming from the heart, He will indeed forgive you. E very pious person has a past and every sinner has a future!

Allah created mercy in one hundred parts and sent down to earth only one part. Because of this one part, there is mutual love amongst creation, so much so that an animal will lift up its hoof from its young one, fearing that it might harm it. Allah has reserved the remaining ninety-nine parts of this mercy to favor His believing servants on the Day of Judgment. (Hadith-Bukhari and Muslim)

Allah's love is much greater than a mother's love for her child. When you find yourself lost in the whirlpool of your sins, when you can't see yourself coming out of this mess, when all you see is darkness around you, remember His doors are open for you. He loves you. If you crawl to Him, He will walk to you. If you walk to Him, He will run to you!

“Don’t despair, for as the sun fades the stars begin to shine! When it appears that that all have left remember Allah Ta’ala is AWLAYS there and will  NEVER leave you ALONE!”
